We built VeriflyAI because most people can't afford a lawyer every time they need to sign something. You shouldn't need one for the basics.
We're a small team in Lisbon. A few of us moved countries for work or just life, and we kept running into the same wall: you need to sign something — a lease, a freelance contract, an NDA in a language you barely speak — and you have two options. Pay €200 for an hour of legal advice, or just sign and hope for the best. Most people choose option two.
We watched friends sign rental agreements with clauses that were straight-up illegal in the country they were renting in. We saw freelancers accept contracts that waived rights they didn't know they had. We did it ourselves. That's why we built this.
VeriflyAI launched in Portugal in early 2025. The idea was simple: upload a document, get a plain-English breakdown in under 60 seconds, with every risky clause flagged and explained. Not a generic summary — an analysis against the actual laws of the relevant country. We now cover 10+ countries, check against 67 legal rules across 11 jurisdictions, support 9 document types, and run in 4 languages: Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.
We're not trying to replace lawyers. That would be a bad idea, and we know it. Some contracts need a real human who passed the bar. But most people don't need a lawyer to check if their NDA has an overly broad non-compete, or whether their rental deposit clause is enforceable. That's what we're here for — the 80% of situations where you just need someone to read the thing and tell you if something looks off.
When our analysis flags a serious issue — a score below 50, a high-value transaction, a family law matter — we tell you to go find a qualified lawyer. And we link you to the official bar association in your country so you actually can.

A rental agreement or NDA shouldn't require a €200/hour consultation. We built VeriflyAI so anyone — regardless of budget or country — can understand what they're signing.
We're an AI tool. Not a law firm. We say that clearly on every analysis we return. When something needs a real lawyer, we tell you — and we point you to one.
We don't sell your data. We don't train our models on your documents without consent. What you upload is private, encrypted, and yours.
We started in Portugal but we've always built for the whole world. 10+ countries, 4 languages, 9 document types. The list keeps growing.
Every analysis we return says this clearly: verify with a qualified lawyer before you rely on this for anything high-stakes.We mean it. AI makes mistakes. Laws change. Jurisdiction matters. We do the heavy lifting for the common cases, but we won't pretend we're a substitute for proper legal advice when the stakes are real.
We've built escalation directly into the platform. If a document scores below a certain threshold — or involves a high-value transaction, employment dispute, or family matter — we flag it and tell you to find a real lawyer. We also link directly to your country's official bar association so that's actually easy to do.
We're engineers and builders based in Lisbon — not lawyers, for the record. We built this because we kept running into the problem ourselves. The plan is to keep expanding: more countries, more document types, more languages. If there's a jurisdiction you need and we don't cover yet, tell us.
